March Life Drawing Roundup Post - Part 4 The finale? next year perhaps (It's the celebratory take crappy pictures with your mobile day)
And now for something completely different;
For this session (since it's the final one) i got the chance to do sketches in my sketchbook, which makes using pencil a ton easier since it shows and handles better than when using the canvas, though the beginning sketches did make me realise that i have gotten very used to using charcoal in these sessions.
Still it's not like they're bad, its just a slight conflict of wanting to draw how i usually do in these sessions, the form comes across well but some of the finer points are a little off.
One minute sketches again, and these were a lot easier to handle with a sketchbook due to my proximity and ease of use for the book, though getting the form out is still quite hard within a short time. I'm miles better than when i started but it's also hard when the model is different because you become more accustomed to drawing certain shapes quickly.
Some close up drawings off Face and hands both 15 minutes each to do. Faces are Hard, like really hard, especially under a time limit, because there are so many small aspects that change the entire impression of features on a person. With charcoal this becomes slightly easier due to smudging the wider marks. but pencil is very fine and precise so i did not do too well with this.
The hands however are much better to do (in my opinion) using pencil because you can capture all the ridges and edges of the hands without too much hassle, though it is hard to make nails look nice in a drawing from my limited experience as they always seem to look grubby.
The last 3 drawings were all me making use of how i like to sketch when i don't need to imagine things from scratch, unlike charcoal where i have trouble making soft marks and strokes, pencil i can vary my strokes quite well and get a nice range of tones in the drawings, these do come a little slow but they match up quite well with the model. Speed would likely be my criticism here.
Its sad to see this end, as i think Life drawing has helped me with my speed, knowledge of anatomy and body shapes, tone and value on a body as well as learning (and loving) some new mediums. So i truly do appreciate these sessions for helping me improve so much.
The End?
