February Roundup Post (Unlimited Spam Works) (part 3)
Some good sketches for this week, i think i really kept up my shading being good from the previous session also mandatory; Blah, blah, blah ordering....
With that said the warm up sketches are here, felt really good at there, enough to get a close up of my favourite, the hard shading gives the model a nice amount of value on the body and makes the posing clear, while the rest of my sketches were also good. I also made myself concentrate on some different elements of the body to get a wide range of sketching done.
A new segment we had to do was minute sketches, a tough challenge, especially for me who likes to take his time, but was still pretty fun as it was a test to see how well we could convey the pose of the body and get some detail in such a short time period. The only problem here is that because i didn't size some of these down properly i went through 3 sheets just for these sketches (hence the small thumbnails)
A nice sketch with the focus on the crossed arms, kind of a time sync but the arms came out looking like they had good value and proportion to them so i think the time investment was worth it, plus i think that the arms and small surrounding elements are very telling of the overall pose and give good indication of where the key elements can hang in a pose.
These were both prompted by the instruction to make use of other parts of the charcoal to get a wide range of marks, the first one didnt come out too well as i had trouble mark making and couldn't give a good value range on the dense parts of the model. The second piece however i opted to use the side of the charcoal for wide sweeping marks and use less outlines so as to better demonstrate the marks left by the sweeping motions.
Had some pretty nice pieces in this session, managed to cover alot of ground per sketch, more so than usual anyway which is some growth from my slower pace of drawing and the utility of adding value to drawings is also becoming more natural. I think i still need to work on perhaps adding variety to my work and maybe add more lower half sketches to my repertoire to balance out my other work.
