February Life Drawing Roundup (Doing things monthly was a mistake) (part1)
(alot of posts are coming at you, so brace for spam)
Well I'm now slightly regretting that lifedrawing lesson, i have stacks of paper which are grouped into the sessions I've had, but because it's halfway through march I've now forgotten what order they go into, so this is gonna be a little confusing for me and you.
As usual some warm up sketches to get us going , it's interesting to see how i can tell which days i was on point or not and how this affected how i was drawing when looking at work after a little while. Some of the pieces with shading on i was quite happy with, having a nice amount of depth and better resembling their corresponding body pieces better than i usually do i think.
An artist i was shown by Tessa was extremely interesting in that while "correctly" drawn in terms of proportions the anatomy was off and looked a little spindly and grotesque in some ways, he also had a fascination with hands which were very detailed and slightly larger than normal in all of the drawings, so to experiment i decided to emulate his method of drawing, i think it came out well but you can really see how much i had to focus on the hands to convey this fascination.
Another piece utilising the compressed charcoal, not too happy with this, i think i tried to use this in the same way i use charcoal, which doesnt quite work due to how dark of a mark the material causes, due to this there isn't alot of value in the image and it all looks quite flat.
The finale of the week and another chance to do a long piece (ish) using charcoal, i took alot of joy int the chance to just match alot of the features as well as i could, and i think i can say im getting better at my pace for pieces like this because i think it matches the amount of content from life drawing a fair few weeks back but with less time put into it this time. The shading has also improved as smudging and utilising the charcoal has gotten more natural over time. Definitely a skill i am happy to pick up in this course.
