February Life Drawing Roundup (Okay i can probably remember the order these things go) (part 2)
Ughh, because of how these photo's are taken the pictures are all in reverse order so i have to reorganise them everytime, what a pain. Anyway the second week of February's life drawings are here....i think. It's definitely from february though.
With that said, the warm up sketches, man was i not on point that day, some really coarse looking sketches, with not alot of detail on them. I could have definitely shaded them better or at least covered more of the body. and i was obviously having trouble getting the poses out from all those extra lines.
Some better sketches here we had to draw piece focusing on the hands. So, making use of the compressed charcoal and following the guidelines of inverting the sketch so that i make the detail from what i dont make marks on, this was quite an interesting experience as usual, the outspread hand while a simple pose was tough to sketch the negative space for to make the fingers look right as i had to capture the nuances of the hand. definitely required some intense looking at the hands.
Things are going better towards the end, this back shot i thought i handled well, the posing is clear and there's enough detail on the back to make out the posture of the man, plus to make things more impactful i went with using clear cut shapes for all of the shadows and blemishes, making things pop out quite substantially. kind of wish i'd gotten more done on the hair though. Hair bothers me intensely, if i know its meant to be there than i really want to draw it detailed as i think it conveys alot of the heads shaping, position and character (but that's just me)
The last piece was again inspired by an artist shown to me by Tessa, which showed a piece where aot of the marks were made by drawing rubbing out and redrawing the model over and over, for this interesting residue effect, and the layer remaining had a very long sweeping strokes for it's composition. i though this would be a nice piece to emulate due to my nature of continually erasing elements i didnt not like in my drawings. I can say i at least got these sweekping strokes in, though i might have needed more time to build up layers of erasing underneath for the full effect.
All in all a above average session, the start was poor but it got good near the end with some of the bigger pieces which is more important to me in this case.
