Life Drawing (29/11/14)

Another Batch of Life drawing images, this time for the Halloween week. after doing some traditional sketches we got to do some zombie style poses which was alot of fun because we got to explore some really interesting shapes as opposed to the usual still poses.




The poses we did using a grid to establish perspective was really hard for me, and it ended up with me going back and forth drawing the grid around the drawing to make it look right, i probably need more work in perspective drawing.


I managed to get better near the end because i didn't commit so much to any of my lines and rubbed them out or adjusted them more freely if they didn't match well to what i could see.

Proportions - Elves and Dwarfs make for a nice change of pace

Last weeks lesson had us doing work on proportions when drawing characters and how variation in that proportion helps show things like babies from adults as well as when there intends to be a variety of human like race. To further this point we had to then draw our own elf and dwarf, following through with making there proportions relatively in line with their stereotype; elves are tall and willowy, dwarves being stout and hefty. As such we were shown roughly how many heads their height would be and where key points in their anatomy would be. Elves would be around 8-9 heads tall, Dwarves 4-5 heads. The dwarf i had a lot of fun with as it gave me a chance to try really emphasising the hard edges of the body to give it a sturdy look despite the smaller proportions. The elf on the other hand was more challenging as i usually only go up to 6 - 7 heads in my other work so it was harder to balance out features and body parts over that longer distance. Spring Submission - Refining and Implementing (diamonds in the rough)

To continue from my concepts, I took to Photoshop to refine and further experiment with UI and menu idea's, this time with something that would be usable in the game. First since there was the gear theme that we were running with, i thought the most appropriate thing would be to make gears digitally, so that then i could re purpose them for some initial designs. The principle was just to get a variety of pins to choose from so that we could vary these up in the designs. These gears led to these initial quick designs, which were not too popular with the group, (and not just for the colouring, that was mainly for identification of elements) but the use of gears wasn't desired and they wanted me to refine the gear shape (some of which i was producing concept art for) so it was back to the drawing board.
