Making Jeanne's Guns - All 4 One (AAA asset production - winter assessment) (Part2)

This will make part 2 of my asset production; back to me darting around making various small parts for the gun as this feels less daunting to do that crafting the whole thing at once. plus breaking down a challenge is always more effective to making goals and meeting them.

At this point i darted to the stock (I think) of the gun, and making this rather odd shape at the top, using cubes and extruding carefully to make the flow of the shape.

afterwards it ends up like this, this I will come back to when i decide to model other parts of this segment of the gun

In regards to the construction of the barrel, due to how block like the shape of it is i was able to construct it through using another polycube and adding edge loops to extrude the necessary ridges. Likewise since the tubing of the barrel was very simple in design, i just used a cylinder to create a barrel that went into the gun.

Although a little placeholder i also worked on the gem panel of the gun, working using a cylinder then extruding faces in four positions to match the shaping of the piece, this is mainly going to be used to better visualise the model, as i still need to revisit this shape to refine it.

Little bit of an interlude here, after making some of the elements of the gun i realised that i had still a rather limited knowledge of the object i was creating, the image i selected to create the object from where still unclear in aspects as to how i should piece together the model, so i took back to gathering more material for my object and found some further useful images from which to construct my model.

reflecting on some of my new reference images, i made some adjustments to the ring piece/guard of the gun but adding a segment to fit into the main barrel, this better allows for this piece to flow into the barrel.

darting back to the magazine; further getting a feel for how the parts fit into the design by extruding down the outer edge loop of the magazine for the width, and then positioning with the guard to see how they would fit together.

a simple pipe and beveling on the edges to give this segment a nice taper, though this segment will require more parts to fit together well for the stock.

more work on the stock fixing on the piece that will lead into the barrel, had to create this mesh wit the quad draw as i wanted to layout the topography so that the there would be a border which i could extrude down as the image demonstrates, as well as for the small segment that needs to be extruded out as shown in my reference image.

extending this mesh out more so that when duplicated out as a 3D element it can interconnect with the barrel i have created.

This will just about wrap up this post, i don't want to put too much into one post else it may get too boring to read. Apologies if my modelling habits are rather skittish, but i enjoy hopping around and modelling bits and pieces all over the model as it gives a feeling of getting close to finishing the model, or more like i am making progress, as this scale and quality of a model is quite new to me. In fact doing a model like this based off of something that would be required of someone as modeler int he industry demonstrates to me just how much work needs to go into things that we often barely pay attention to (if they are done well that is) so kudos to all the professional modelers out there.
