Proportions - Elves and Dwarfs make for a nice change of pace

Last weeks lesson had us doing work on proportions when drawing characters and how variation in that proportion helps show things like babies from adults as well as when there intends to be a variety of human like race. To further this point we had to then draw our own elf and dwarf, following through with making there proportions relatively in line with their stereotype; elves are tall and willowy, dwarves being stout and hefty. As such we were shown roughly how many heads their height would be and where key points in their anatomy would be. Elves would be around 8-9 heads tall, Dwarves 4-5 heads. The dwarf i had a lot of fun with as it gave me a chance to try really emphasising the hard edges of the body to give it a sturdy look despite the smaller proportions. The elf on the other hand was more challenging as i usually only go up to 6 - 7 heads in my other work so it was harder to balance out features and body parts over that longer distance. Spring Submission - Refining and Implementing (diamonds in the rough)

To continue from my concepts, I took to Photoshop to refine and further experiment with UI and menu idea's, this time with something that would be usable in the game. First since there was the gear theme that we were running with, i thought the most appropriate thing would be to make gears digitally, so that then i could re purpose them for some initial designs. The principle was just to get a variety of pins to choose from so that we could vary these up in the designs. These gears led to these initial quick designs, which were not too popular with the group, (and not just for the colouring, that was mainly for identification of elements) but the use of gears wasn't desired and they wanted me to refine the gear shape (some of which i was producing concept art for) so it was back to the drawing board. Week 5 - Perspective introduction

Just a quick update to the blog, and on time i might add; this week we covered an introduction to perspective drawing, with us being tasked to do some tutorials to produce 1 point perspective drawings, which means the origin point of all of the parallel lines all converge on a single point to show a "depth" in an image, with the examples showing a room in a house and a underpass of a abandoned highway. It was really interesting to cover these, and a change of pace for my usual style of drawing due to how technical they were to set up the objects in the image, though that meant it was overall more well put together (though a little rigid) the second piece i coloured a little giving subtle colours to help capture the bleakness of this apocalyptic style setting.
